Job Description:
An exciting new B2B Marketplace and e-procurement start-up is seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join them to drive the building, rollout, and growth of an Enterprise B2B Marketplace & E-Procurement solution.
The organization is seeking a hands-on, driven, and innovative product oriented Chief Technology Officer to guide and implement the company’s Engineering, Technology, and Product execution.
Responsibilities:
The CTO will be a member of the Management Team reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. Responsibilities will cover:
Strategy
- Develop the overall technical strategy for the organisation.
- Design the best strategy for the organisation's ability to scale, in a very exciting market space which has been further supported by the current climate and the shift to online shopping in the B2B space.
- Maximise the returns and benefits of investments in technology and tools.
- Communicate the company’s technology strategy to management, investors, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders.
- Identify market obstacles and technical hurdles and manage risks appropriately.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies & innovations and software development best practice and apply as appropriate.
- Own the development of the technology budget and ensure that projects are on time and within scope.
- Set definitions of standards, policies, procedures, and metrics.
Team
- Provide technical thought leadership and insight that inspires and motivates the team.
- Hiring, retaining, growing, and motivating excellent teams, building a culture of learning, knowledge sharing and technical excellence, with a strong focus on inclusivity and diversity.
- Train, mentor, and coach the development team (hire as needed).
- Foster a collaborative, positive and “can do” culture within the technical team.
- Leverage data analytics to measure engineering and product team progress against goals.
- Work closely with the product team to ensure technology roadmap is closely aligned to and supports customer needs and long-term product roadmap.
- Creating and championing a culture of cutting-edge product delivery techniques that will motivate, develop, and grow the team to continually innovate and become a market leader in the industry.
Architecture
- Lead decisions on application architecture and infrastructure design that is realistic, affordable, achievable, and able to support scalability, robustness, and successful “bullet-proof” product delivery.
- Oversees the whole technological framework of the organization.
- Make decisions on technology selection including whether to “buy or build” as appropriate.
- Establish the technology architecture requirements to support the growing and changing needs of the business.
- Develop solutions able to be rolled out in rapid phases, where each phase builds on the success of the previous phase in an adaptable and logical manner, focussed on driving revenues, profits and growth.
- Create and manage documentation of system's design, features, and functions.
Responsibilities will also include:
- Oversee all technical elements including pre-sales, implementation, and delivery of projects.
- The CTO will spend time strategizing, planning projects, budgeting, and managing their execution in conjunction with the team and external partners. Executing the most effective technical roadmap and future proofing.
- Work directly with the executive leadership team to define linkages between strategic objectives, process improvements, and project execution out of the engineering and product organizations.
- Develop and facilitate workshop, client and conference presentations and demos showcasing the organisation’s technology.
- Lead the development of the engineering and product teams and take responsibility for their growth and execution of Company objectives.
- Manage all technology functions of the organisation’s- hardware, software, and related resources.
- Supervise web application and software development quality assurance.
- Build / recruit, manage and grow the engineering and technical team to align with the overall corporate culture and strategy.
- Communicate technology strategy and functionality to investors, clients, partners, and prospective clients.
- Develop the group’s IT vision & strategy.
- Leading teams through the software product development, sales, and deployment processes.
- Developing goals and strategies for IT and Ops.
- Manage the technology infrastructure of our B2B Trade ecosystem, including deployment, integration, systems management, and the development of technical operations personnel.
- Manage vendor relations to ensure that service expectations are delivered.
- Ensure that technical resources are available to meet the company's short and long-term needs.
- Analyse and improve upon technology standards across the organisation.
- Define, architect, and carry out the organizational and infrastructure plan required to carry out the company's business and technology strategies.
- Creating an enticing technology strategy and vision.

- Ensure that technical resources are available to meet the company’s short and long-term needs.
- Monitor the management of all hardware, software, databases, and licences, as well as maintenance and future needs projections.
- Recruit, train, manage and scale a talented technology team dedicated to developing innovative solutions that are in line with the company’s business model, values, and vision.
- Managing technology budgets and time frames.
- Understanding market dynamics and converting them into innovation roadmaps.
- Supervise all technology-related functions, such as software design and development, enterprise architecture, quality assurance, production operations and technical support.
- Oversee the information security, disaster recovery, and business continuity operations of the organization.
- Collaborate with internal functional teams to advance business capabilities.
- Conduct technical evaluations of products or solutions to compare and assess their applicability.
- Managing and building teams of developers & solution architects.
Requirements:
- Optimally you have a Bachelor or Master's Degree in Business, Software Engineering & Application Development or Computer Science.
- 10+ years' experience in Information Technology leadership, preferably including experience in payments / transaction processing within a B2B enterprise software, an ERP or AP2P company, or a bank / credit card processing environment.
- Experience building and delivering B2B enterprise grade software applications.
- The ideal candidate should have similar experience in the Retail / e-Commerce / Marketplace domain and be extremely passionate about driving technology and pushing the boundaries, whilst implementing solutions that are able to be implemented in a realistic, affordable, and timely manner.
- Core knowledge of information system vulnerabilities and risk management is essential.
- Have successfully lead enterprise technology organization or held senior position that included product development / management team etc.
- Business development skills.
- Financial knowledge, to budget for their organization’s technological needs.
- Customer-focused – you are adept at running concurrent experiments and analyzing customer behavior / feedback in order to focus on the right developments.
- Leadership – you excel at building and overseeing teams of developers. Embedding an efficient product development methodology.
- Solution oriented – you are constantly searching for practical solutions. And are able to balance curiosity and drive to innovate with the requirement to get things done.
- Communicator – you are able to work alongside the founders/stakeholders and communicate technical challenges and objectives easily and freely.
- Communication skills, to help less technical people understand tech's role in achieving business goals.
- Strategic – you provide strategic recommendations unprompted, rather than following a path already set.
- Ability to design a product roadmap for the coming years. This includes the development strategy.
- Be able to make technological choices (development technology, Data, hosting, machine learning).
- Experience managing or building a marketplace & B2B products a huge plus.
- Experience with C#, Python, Node JS, Angular JS, MySQL a huge plus.
- Demonstrated leadership and success in complex, secure, high-volume, and highly available processing environments.
- Experience in strategic planning with a proven ability to develop and execute a vision for the company's technical direction.
- Strong understanding of high-performance cloud systems (AWS), big data and machine learning etc
- Startup experience a huge plus.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to interact with both junior and senior management and clients.
